Charges & Rates — Barnflow Billing

Types of charges

• Board / Stall Fee — linked to units (stalls) under properties. Daily or monthly rate stored per property/unit type.
• Care Services — feeding, turnout, blanketing, grooming, exercise. Added as dated line items (quantity × rate).
• Add-ons / Pass-through — supplements, farrier, vet, deworming, etc. Manual line items.
• Custom fields — orgs may use JSONB + Zod-validated custom fields for extra charge attributes (e.g., shavings type).

How rates are determined

• Rates live per property; a client with horses at two properties will see different board rates grouped by property.
• Staff sets rates in /app/properties/[property]/rates and/or /app/settings/billing.
• Effective dating: rate changes apply from the effective date forward. Past charges are not rewritten; use an adjustment if correction needed.

Proration

• Formula: daily_rate × number_of_nights_in_window (board is per-night).
• Monthly board converted: monthly_rate / days_in_month × nights.
• Rounding: 2 decimals, half-up, per line item, then summed.
• Example: $900/month in 30-day month = $30/day. 17 nights = $510.00.

Multi-horse & multi-property display

Group: Property → Horse → Date Range → Line Items. Split per client_horses.
