Map questions, answered
TL;DR
Map is one property at a time, in cell space (not Google Maps). Drag horses in Operate; drag stalls in Edit Layout. Aisles: click empty floor, not only tiles. Managers draw overlays; everyone else can still place horses.

How to troubleshoot
Work top to bottom: confirm property, mode (Operate vs Edit Layout vs Intake vs Drawing), then role for aisles.
“The map is empty” / “Select a single property”
Map view is one barn at a time. Pick a property in the map dropdown. If the barn has no units, add stalls first (Add stall / “Sketch your barn on the map”).
“I cannot drop a horse”
- Edit Layout is on — click Done arranging. Horse drags are disabled while arranging tiles.
- Unit is inactive or full. Capacity-1 full offers Swap / Unassign; multi-capacity full blocks.
- You are drawing an aisle/zone — Cancel or Done first.
“Draw aisle does nothing unless I click a stall”
Click anywhere on the map, including empty floor and gaps between tiles. A dark HUD counts points. Need 2+ for an aisle, 3+ for a zone. If you still cannot start, you may not be manager+ (see overlays).
“I cannot see Draw aisle / save is rejected”
staff and trainer can view overlays but cannot create or delete them. Ask a manager, admin, or owner. Error: “Only managers and above can edit aisles and zones.”
“Layout jumped” / “stalls are in a grid, not our aisle”
Units without saved map_x/map_y auto-pack by name. Use Templates then Edit Layout, or Copy layout from a barn that is already arranged. Templates overwrite all positions on that property.
“Stickers / heat / sketch reset on another computer”
Those three live in this browser (localStorage), not the org database. Positions, occupancy, and overlays do sync for everyone.
“Print is missing stalls or shows the toolbar”
Use Print board (not the browser menu on a random page). Choose landscape; enable background graphics. Toolbar and tray are intentionally hidden.
“Undo disappeared”
Undo lasts about 10 seconds after a horse move (sessionStorage). After that, move the horse back by hand.
“Care stickers missing”
Morning command failed to load — a yellow banner says assign still works. Refresh. Completing care is on Today, not the map.
“Is this Google Maps / GPS?”
No. Coordinates are map cells on a CSS grid (map_x/map_y, overlay [x,y]). Not lat/lng, not satellite imagery.

- Signed in as
organization_membersfor this org. - Property selected (not “all”).
- Units exist for that property.
- Mode: Operate (horses) vs Arrange (tiles) vs Intake vs Drawing.
- Capacity and active flag on the destination unit.
- Overlays: role is owner/admin/manager.

Error messages
- “Cannot place on an inactive unit.”
- “Horse is already on this unit.”
- “[Unit] is full (n/cap). Clear a horse or pick another unit.”
